Farm Fresh Flowers

While I love the fresh veggies and berries here at the farm, my most favorite part of the field is my flower field. I have come to love fresh flowers, creating bouquets, arrangements, wreaths, and all things floral. It started back when I began helping my neighbor who is a wedding florist. I would go over when my oldest was napping and help create bridal bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces and arches. It was so fun to see that creative side of flowers and really making art with them! I also learned so many tips and tricks from Sally that has carried over to my floral work now. There’s nothing better than looking out back and seeing a huge field of beautiful summer flowers! It’s something I look forward to every year.

My current favorites are zinnias, roses and snapdragons. I grow a lot of other varieties but those are the focal points of each bouquet I make. I did also love our sunflowers this year, but they were HUGE! Bigger than my head, so using them for a bouquet was out of the question! This year we plan to grow a lot of smaller ones that can be used for arrangements. As well as the tall pretty ones for the scenery. A few of the other varieties we grew were lavender, strawflower, eucalyptus, dusty miller and a few greenery types.

Selling flowers at the farmers market has brought so many new people to the booth. Everyone loves fresh flowers so when they see them out on our table, it’s always a conversation starter. And the stories I’ve heard of why people are buying them and who they’re for always makes me smile. They’ve been given to friends as gifts, to mothers in nursing homes, men buying for their wives, little girls leaving with a few stems because it makes them smile, and then there’s the mamas who just need a bouquet of fresh summer flowers for their kitchen. Knowing my flowers are brightening someone’s day makes it all worth it!

I love getting up early in the morning just as the sun is coming up to cut all my stems needed for the day. It’s quiet and calm out, the birds are chirping and the dew is still out. It really is my favorite part of farming!

This year I am hoping to start offering bouquet services for things like bridal/baby showers, birthday parties, work parties, and any special occasion that would need center pieces, jar bouquets, etc. If you have any interest in that just shoot me an email! berryhillfarmxenia@gmail.com

FLOWER SUBSCRIPTION
I am also offering a flower subscription for those who may be interested in bouquets/arrangements but aren’t quite sure when you would need them for. I thought about doing a weekly share, but honestly many of the flowers last way longer than a week. So instead, I’m offering a $75 and $150 option where you will be able to join, and then let me know when you need arrangements. This can be for things like 4th of July BBQ, birthdays, gifts for friends, baby/bridal showers, new moms, or maybe you just have family coming into town and want a pretty bouquet for your guests. Depending on which option you choose, you’ll receive either 5 or 10 bouquets throughout the whole growing season whenever you need them. They will include whatever flowers are in season which may include snapdragons, zinnias, lavender, roses, sunflowers, etc. I will make sure your bouquets and arrangements are full and beautiful. If you have interest in that, please email me at berryhillfarmxenia@gmail.com and include FLOWERS in the subject line.

This year I did my first bouquet making class AND a birthday party bouquet class that was tons of fun! With both of these, I teach you and your friends how to create a beautiful bouquet, techniques for making them stand out, adding greenery, and more. It was a lot of fun! I’m planning a couple more bouquet making classes for summer of 2023 so if you’d like to know when those dates are, head to the newsletter page and sign up for our emails. If you’d like to celebrate your birthday with a flower class, shoot me an email!

Another new addition to the farm in 2023 will be a upick flower field! As long as I can get all my ducks in a row, I plan to open up a small field of upick flowers probably starting in late June/early July. It will be priced per stem or per bucket. A fun mommy & me date or a fun way to create your own arrangement for at home. Stay tuned for more details!

I am so thankful to be able to stay home and farm and do what I love. Chris and I both are so blessed. We love being outdoors and getting our hands dirty, especially when we are simultaneously providing for the community. Or bringing the community together! If my little flower field can bring a smile to someone’s face or brighten up your home, my job is complete. I am a creative at heart and this is just another outlet for me to create. Mixing colors, textures, trying out new varieties, all of it makes me so happy. We both have so much fun on this farm working together, raising our boys and meeting some of the funniest, loving, beautiful customers. This farm has brought about some great friendships that we truly cherish! Thank you all who support us year after year and have fun with us while doing so.
Life is short. Eat the ice cream and buy the flowers! xo
