NEW THIS YEAR!
We are so excited to be offering a day camp this year, right here on the farm! This is designed for children ages 8-12. Want to know what it’s like to live on, and run a farmstead? This is the perfect opportunity to come spend a morning and early afternoon on the farm not only seeing how things work, but getting to be the hands and feet of our daily farm chores.
But don’t worry, it won’t all be hard work ;)
We will have lots of time set aside for games, learning and mastering a new skill, arts & crafts, snacks, and time to be with the animals or eat some fresh picked berries.
More details can be found at the bottom of this page with what exactly to expect, what your kiddos will need to bring, what they’ll do/learn, and what they will get to go home with.
Location:
Berryhill Farm
127 E Krepps Rd. Xenia, OH 45385
Activities will vary week to week. Our June week will consist of taking care of new baby chicks, cleaning out the chicken coop nesting boxes, picking blueberries, starting cucumber plants plus some other veggies, hiking around the farm as we harvest wild mint, rotating cattle, feeding/visiting the baby quail, weeding & watering the garden, making mint tea, enjoying some frozen blueberries, participate in team building activities, art projects, learning how to dye fabric naturally & more.
Both July weeks will consist of similar activities, plus more such as black berry pruning, collecting eggs, picking flowers and making bouquets, building forts, a “from a distance” encounter with our bees, planting pumpkins, (come back later in the fall to see the fruits of your hard work!), haltering, brushing and walking our newest future milk calf, learning how to tie knots, and more.
Our final week in August will consist of harvesting lots of garden veggies, learning how to wash and pack our veggies, making a salad, weeding the gardens, hiking, feeding and watering quail/pigeons/pheasants, picking blackberries, plus many of the activities listed above.
We will have stations set aside for the possibility that your child doesn’t want to participate in something. For example: If you child wishes not to do an art project, or feed animals, we will have coordinating kids books that match the day’s theme they can browse through.
Everyone will be sent home with info regarding what we learned about each week - so parents can be informed and possibly further their interest/education in a certain topic.
Because we will be outside for 4.5 hours, there are a few things your children will need to bring with them.
First and foremost, a decent sized water bottle (labeled) will be needed each day. We will provide continued availability to refill water throughout the day. Sunscreen is highly encouraged if your kids are subject to burning. Appropriate clothing is also encouraged (short sleeves but no sleeveless shirts due to burning, shorts, bathing suit trunks for boys are acceptable as long as you’re ok with them getting dirty, longer length shorts for girls - we will be hiking in woods - dresses are discouraged, close toed shoes are a must. Can be boots or old sneakers).
Each child will need a packed lunch. We will be providing lots of snacks and water, and they will also get to eat any fruits/veggies/snacks we make together. Please email with allergies
Drop off will be anytime 8:45am to 9am. We will aim to be off on our adventures by 9:20am so please try to arrive on time.
Pick up will be 1:30pm.
Camp is Monday-Thursday.
If your child has to miss a day, there will be no refund given, however we will certainly make sure they get any craft/project/snack that we made as a group, as well as any info they may have missed.
This camp is designed to build upon itself throughout the week, so attendance is strongly encouraged.
Investment
The cost for camp, per child is $200.
What does this include?
You weekly investment includes 3 adults who will teach and practice new skills with your children. We promise to invest our time into making this experience truly memorable for your kids. Camps will not exceed 10 children so there will always be a 3:10 ratio of adults to kiddos.
This also includes all listed activities including items to take home (eggs, tea, crafts, knots, projects, berries, veggies, flowers, etc.)
4 days of real time, real life experience on a working farm.
Each child will also receive a farm journal, t-shirt, info packets, and will get to take home a Berryhill Farm coloring book designed by me.
It’s also important to note this: This is a WORKING farm with livestock. Please understand by sending your kiddos here for the week, you agree and accept that they will be exposed to sun, cows, chickens, poultry of various kinds, heat, woods, and tools such as hoes and rakes. We do carry insurance here on the farm.
Payment for camp can be made via Venmo or cash/check. Venmo is most encouraged to reserve your spot. Please only register if you are certain your child can make it. Spots will only be refunded if we can find a replacement, should you need to cancel.
